How many people across the globe are vaccinated?

Globally, 550 crore doses have been administered, with 218 crore people fully vaccinated, meaning 28% of the world population is fully vaccinated. Experts believe that vaccinating 70- 85% of the population is needed to return to normalcy.
Considering the 75% figure, and the current global average of 38.7 million doses administered in a day, it will take another 5 months for enough people to be vaccinated.
Only 35 places have administered enough doses
More than 215 countries and territories are administering COVID-19 vaccine doses. have started their vaccination rollouts. The first vaccine dose administered globally was in Russia, some 275 days ago.
Currently, only 35 places have administered enough doses to cover at least 60% of the population.
UAE leads with 188 doses per 100 people
Looking at the absolute numbers, China leads with having administered 210.75 crore. However, when looking at doses administered per 100 people, UAE leads this number with 188 doses.
India tops with doses administered during August
Leading the global charts, India administered 180 million doses of COVID-19 vaccination in the month of August. Not only did India lead the global charts, the country also administered more doses than all G7 nations combined.
The other 6 nations - Japan, USA, France, Germany, Italy, UK and Canada, collectively administered 101 doses. Japan stood second with 40 million doses amongst the G7 countries, Brazil stood second globally having administered 50 million doses in August.
How is India doing overall?
While the rate of vaccination is definitely increasing, we still have a long way to go. Only 38.1% of India’s population has been administered with one dose, and overall 1.6% of the total India’s population is fully vaccinated, as against the global average of 28%.

Rich countries will have 1.2 billion extra doses
According to Bloomberg, rich countries and territories i.e. countries with highest incomes are getting vaccinated at least 20 times faster than countries with lowest income levels. The wealthiest of 78 places have 72.4% of vaccinations, as against 42.4% population. China leads the gap with 38.2% of the world's vaccines and 18.2% of the world’s population.
According to current estimates, by the end of the year, wealthy countries will have 1.2 billion extra doses.
Less wealthy nations rely on Covax
The least wealthy 52 places account for 20.6% of the world’s population but have only 3.1% of the vaccines. The Less wealthy countries are relying on a Covax, vaccine-sharing arrangement, which aims to provide two billion doses by mid-2022.
Of the more than 1 billion doses, G7 countries and the EU pledged last year, less than 15% have been delivered.
