1st Covid vaccine for children above 12 approved in India
India's drug regulator on Friday approved Zydus Cadila's three-dose COVID-19 DNA vaccine for emergency use in adults and children aged 12 years and above, bringing in the sixth vaccine authorized for use in the country. The company said it plans to manufacture 100 million to 120 million doses of ZyCoV-D annually and has started to stockpile the vaccine.

Delhi records highest one-day rain for August in at least 13 years
On Saturday, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said that Delhi recorded 139 mm rainfall, the highest one-day rain for August in at least 13 years, and issued an 'orange alert’ for the city. Officials said heavy rains lashed parts of the national capital, which brought the mercury down and relieved Delhiites.

Army Stadium in Pune named after Neeraj Chopra
A stadium in the premises of the Army Sports Institute in Pune is to be named after Tokyo Olympics Gold medalist Neeraj Chopra. The stadium will be named 'Neeraj Chopra Army Sports Stadium' in Pune Cantt. The official naming ceremony of the stadium is scheduled for August 23 and will be carried out by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

NTPC commissions 15 MW floating solar capacity at Simhadri
With this, the total installed capacity of the floating solar PV project at Simhadri stands at 25 MW. NTPC Ltd has commissioned the largest floating solar PV project of 25MW on the reservoir of its Simhadri thermal power station in Visakhapatnam. This is also the first solar project to be set up under the Flexibilisation Scheme, notified by the Government of India in 2018. The Solar PV project was inaugurated today.

Deforestation in Amazon forest hits the highest annual level
Between August 2020 and July 2021, the rainforest lost 10.476 square kilometres – an area nearly seven times bigger than greater London and 13 times the size of New York City. A Brazilian research institute has been tracking Amazon deforestation since 2008 and the figure is 57% higher than in the previous year and is the worst since 2012.

Centre to pay PF share of employer, employee till 2022 for certain people
The central government has decided to pay the provident fund (PF) share of the employer as well as the employee till 2022 for people who lost their jobs but again called back to work in small scale jobs in the formal sector whose units are registered in EPFO, said FM.

The Indian pair of Manika Batra and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran won the mixed doubles title at the WTT Contender event in Budapest on Friday.
