‘Welcome back’: Manchester United to Cristiano Ronaldo
Manchester United have confirmed that Cristiano Ronaldo will make a sensational return to Old Trafford after they agreed on a fee with Juventus for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner. Ronaldo is expected to sign a two-year deal subject to being granted a visa and passing a medical, with United having agreed to pay an initial EUR 2o million to the Italian club plus up to EUR 3 million in bonuses.

India administers record 1 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses today
This is the highest-ever vaccination number achieved in a single day since the start of the vaccination drive in January. This comes a day after the health minister said that at least 50% of the total adult population of India has received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya took to Twitter to congratulate the citizens.

Delhi schools to reopen from September 1
Schools in Delhi will reopen from September 1 for Classes 9-12. Students will need parents' permission for attending school and no one will be forced to attend the classes because of the hybrid system.

Domestic traffic expected to reach pre-Covid levels by end of FY23
Delhi Airport has started to witness a gradual growth in passenger numbers during August to about 90,000 passengers/day, 5 times the number from May. Domestic traffic will see a gradual rise on the back of improvement in COVID situation and the high level of vaccinations being achieved. However, international traffic will reach pre-COVID levels only by FY24.

Muscat-Dhaka flight makes emergency landing in Nagpur
A flight of the official carrier of Bangladesh Biman made an emergency landing at Nagpur International Airport after its pilot, Captain Naushad, suffered a massive heart attack. Dhaka-bound flight BG 22 was carrying 126 passengers from Muscat, the port capital of Oman.

Bhavinaben becomes first Indian TT player to secure medal in Paralympics
Patel scripted history by becoming the first Indian table tennis player to secure a medal in the Paralympics after she entered the semi-finals with a straight-game win over world No. 5 Borislava Peric Rankovic of Serbia in the women's singles Class 4 event. The 34-year-old beat her Serbian opponent 11-5 11-6 11-7 in a quarterfinal match that lasted 18 minutes.

5 people killed in Dima Hasao, Assam
Five people were killed and one sustained injuries after trucks were set ablaze in Assam’s Dima Hasao. Suspected militants fired at seven trucks and later set them on fire. All of them were drivers and handymen of the trucks. Authorities suspect the involvement of the Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA).

Agriculture minister launches food and nutrition campaign
Tomar said that the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has been working on which crops should be cultivated and which seeds should be invented for rain fed and other areas. Rupee posts best week in 4 months; Nifty closes above 16,600
The rupee saw its biggest weekly gain in four months today as investors unwound long dollar positions ahead of US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell's Jackson Hole speech later in the day. The partially convertible rupee ended the session at 73.68/69 per dollar, better than Thursday's close of 74.2150.
Nifty closes well above16,600 which is a good start to the new series. It should be heading to 16,850-16,900 which is the next level of resistance for the index.
