India's Nishad Kumar wins Silver in men's high jump
India's Nishad Kumar clinched the silver medal on Sunday in the men's high jump (T46/47) category at the ongoing Tokyo Paralympics. Nishad Kumar equalled his own Asian record with a jump of 2.06m in the final of the high jump event. The other Indian in the fray, Ram Pal, finished a creditable fifth, equalling his personal best jump of 1.94m.

India extends ban on scheduled international flights till Sep 30
The DGCA on Sunday extended the suspension of international commercial passenger flights till September 30, 2021, in view of COVID-19. The circular added that some scheduled international flights may be allowed on selected routes. This decision will be taken by the competent authority on a case to case basis.

Mysore University withdraws circular curbing women’s movement
After receiving flak for their earlier circular, barring movement of women students on campus beyond 6.30 pm, the University of Mysore has now issued a revised circular, extending the same rule to all students and not just women. The earlier circular was issued by the University of Mysore following the alleged gang-rape of an MBA student on the outskirts of Mysuru city.

Bill Gates hails India for administering over 10 million vaccines in one day
American billionaire and philanthropist Bill Gates on Saturday congratulated India for reaching a "tremendous milestone" of administering 10 million vaccine doses against COVID-19 on Friday, thus recording the highest single-day vaccine coverage so far. This, Gates said, was the result of the collective efforts of the government, the research and development (R&D) community, vaccine manufacturers, and all the health workers who made this feat possible.

43 cr Jan Dhan accounts with total deposits over INR 1.46 lakh cr
Bank accounts under Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna (PMJDY) have increased to 43 crore with total deposits over INR 1.46 lakh crore, the finance ministry on Saturday said as the government's flagship financial inclusion scheme completes seven years of implementation. The PMJDY was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day address on August 15, 2014.

India's Vinod Kumar wins bronze in men's discus throw
India's Vinod Kumar clinched the bronze medal in the men's discus throw (F52) at the Tokyo Paralympics on Sunday. Vinod threw a best effort of 19.91m in the final to secure the bronze medal. He also set a new Asian record in the process. Piotr Kosewicz of Poland won the gold medal with an effort of 20.02m while Croatia's Velimir Sandor took silver with a throw of 19.98m.

Centre extends deadline of tax payment till September 30
The government on Sunday extended the deadline of payment of income tax without any additional amount under its "Vivad Se Vishwas" scheme till September 30, 2021, keeping in mind the difficulties being faced by taxpayers in getting and filling Form 3 which is required by the declarant to pay the tax amount.
