India officially talks to Taliban
Indian envoy to Qatar Deepak Mittal met Taliban leader Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai at the Indian Embassy in Doha. The statement by MEA said that the discussions focused on safety, security and early return of Indian nationals stranded in Afghanistan. The travel of Afghan nationals, especially minorities who wish to visit India, also came up.

Punjab CM contradicts Rahul Gandhi on Jallianwala Bagh revamp
Hours after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi dubbed the revamp of the Jallianwala Bagh memorial an "insult to martyrs", Punjab CM Amarinder Singh appeared to praise the makeover, saying it looked “very nice” to him.
PM Narendra Modi had digitally dedicated the renovated complex of the Jallianwala Bagh memorial to the nation on August 28. Punjab Chief Minister Singh too had attended the function through video conference.

Nine new Supreme Court judges take oath
Nine new Supreme Court judges, including three women, were administered their oaths of office by Chief Justice NV Ramana. It is for the first time in the history of the apex court that nine judges took the oath of office at one go. The strength of the Supreme Court has now risen to 33, including the CJI, out of the sanctioned strength of 34.

1.28 crore people vaccinated in a single day in India
India vaccinated more than 1.28 crore people (till 10 pm) today, breaking the August 27 record when it jabbed 1.08 crore people. Bihar led among states by vaccinating more than 15 lakh. This is Bihar’s highest ever single-day feat as the state did not cross 10 lakh daily shots earlier.

SC orders demolition of Supertech’s twin towers in Noida
The SC has ordered the demolition of the 40-storey twin towers in the real estate company's Emerald Court project in Noida within three months. Observing illegal collusion between the Noida Authority and the real estate developer, the court has ordered repayment of all money taken from homebuyers with 12% interest.

India's GDP growth surges 20.1% in June quarter
India's GDP grew sharply from 1.6% in the previous quarter (Q4FY21) and from a record contraction of 24.4% in the same quarter a year earlier (Q1FY21).
The growth marks a significant improvement from a deep slump last year helped by accelerated manufacturing in spite of a devastating second wave of COVID-19.

BCCI invites tender for new IPL franchises
BCCI has put a base price of INR 2000 crore for the new teams of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after it sent out a release inviting bids for two new franchises on August 31.
BCCI is thinking to reintroduce an old method (used in 2011 when there were 10 teams) by dividing the teams into two groups of five each, with each side playing home and away against five teams and four others once each.

Tokyo Paralympics highlights
Mariyappan Thangavelu, Sharad Kumar brought more glory for India as they won silver and bronze respectively in the men's high jump T63 event.
Earlier in the day, Indian shooter Singhraj Adana claimed the bronze medal in the P1 men's 10m air pistol SH1 event.
India has won two gold, five silver and three bronze medals at the Tokyo Paralympics so far.

India adds 557 new species to its fauna
India has added 557 new species to its fauna, which includes 407 new species and 150 new records, reveals Animal Discoveries 2020, a document published recently by the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI). The number of faunal species in India has climbed to 1,02,718 species with the discovery of the news species.
