Maharashtra Health Minister says no death in State due to oxygen shortage
Maharashtra Health Minister and senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Rajesh Tope clarified that there was no record in the State of any death due to shortage of oxygen during the two waves of the pandemic. He mentioned that the fatalities that have occurred were due to co-morbidities or other medical ailments.

New cricket format to take off in England

Netflix will be expanding into video games, starting with ad-free games for mobile devices like phones and tablets available on its existing service at no added cost to subscribers. 25 killed in central China flood; situation “extremely severe”
At least 25 people have died after torrential rains caused landslides and flooded Zhengzhou in central China’s Henan province. Around 200,000 residents were evacuated in Zhengzhou, which saw the equivalent of a year's average rain dumped on it in just three days. Rainstorms submerged the city’s metro and therefore, rescuers had to cut open the roof of the coach to pull people to safety.

Australia’s Brisbane to host 2032 Olympic Games
The Australian city of Brisbane has been selected to host the 2032 summer Olympics, as announced by the International Olympic Committee. With this, Australia has become the second country after the United States to host the Olympic Games in three different cities. Prior to this, Melbourne had staged the Olympics in 1956 and Sydney had in 2000.

Byju's acquires US Edtech firm Epic in $500 million deal
Byju's Epic acquisition is part of its overseas expansion plans, wherein it expects to generate annual revenue of $300 million this financial year. This is its second-biggest buyout after brick-and-mortar coaching network Aakash Institute, which it snapped up earlier this year for nearly $1 billion. Byju’s said it aims to invest around $1 billion in North America over the next couple of years.

Second Covid-19 wave was India’s worst tragedy since partition
The report prepared by the Centre for Global Development states that regardless of the source and estimates, the actual number of deaths during the Covid-19 pandemic is likely to have been much greater than the official count of 400,000. The true deaths are likely to be in the order of several millions not hundreds of thousands, making this arguably India's worst human tragedy since Partition.

Two-thirds of Indians have Covid antibodies: Govt
Around 40 crore people are still vulnerable to COVID-19 infection as a nationwide survey found two-thirds of the country's population aged above six to have SARS-CoV-2 antibodies. The government stressed there is no room for complacency in the fight against the pandemic and Covid-appropriate behaviour has to be followed.

Swiggy raises $1.25 billion to push non-food delivery
Swiggy raised $1.25 billion from SoftBank Vision Fund II as well as existing investors Prosus, Accel and Wellington Management, valuing the company at $5.5 billion post the fund raise. They will use the fresh capital to aggressively invest in its non-food verticals along with exploring M&A opportunities and hiring tech talent. The big focus for investments will be on its hyperlocal grocery and essentials delivery service Instamart.
