Simone Biles pulls out of the all-round final at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics
Superstar American gymnast Simone Biles has withdrawn from the individual all-round gymnastics final competition at the Tokyo Olympics games to focus on her mental health. She still has the opportunity to compete in other individual events, having qualified for individual finals in each apparatus: vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise. She will take the remaining Olympic games “one day at a time” as she looks to add to her haul of four gold medals won at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Slipknot founding drummer Joey Jordison passes away
Joey Jordison, a founding member of Slipknot, who drummed for the influential metal band in its most popular period and helped write many of its best-known songs, has died at age 46. Slipknot was one of the bands credited with keeping hard rock alive and vital in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

Rakesh Asthana appointed as Delhi Police Commissioner
Rakesh Asthana, a former officer of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), was appointed Delhi Police Commissioner three days before his retirement. As per a Supreme Court decision, officers with less than six months left in service should not be considered for police chief posts. His appointment as Delhi Police Chief was enabled by an extension granted "as a special case”.

IMF downgraded India’s growth
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) lowered India's growth projection from 12.5 per cent to 9.5 per cent for the fiscal year 2021-22: down by three percentage points, following the severe second wave of Covid-19 pandemic in the country. This is in line with the growth forecast made by the RBI during the June monetary policy committee meeting.

Billionaire investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala plans 70 planes for new airline
Rakesh Jhunjhunwala plans to have 70 aircrafts for a new ultra-low-cost airline, called Akasa Air, that he wants to set up in India on the optimism that more people will travel by air. He is considering investing $35 million and would own 40% of the carrier. He expects to get a no-objection certificate from India’s aviation industry in the next 15 days.

Kerela positivity rate is at 12.35%
Kerala recorded 22,129 new Covid-19 cases, taking the total number of patients currently under treatment in the state to 1.45 lakh. The test positivity rate rose from 10.59% to 12.35%. As per the data of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Kerala tops the number of active cases in the country, with Maharashtra having the second-highest number of active cases.
