China witnesses its worst Covid-19 outbreak since Wuhan
China is witnessing a sudden surge of the Delta variant of the Covid-19 cases with 15 cities, including the capital Beijing, grappling with clusters of positive cases, with the official media calling it the most extensive domestic contagion after the virus outbreak in Wuhan in December 2019. The outbreak was first discovered in China's Nanjing, where around 200 people have been infected since the virus was first detected at the city's airport on July 20. All 93 lakh of the city's residents will be tested.

Former Union Minister, Babul Supriyo quits politics
Babul Supriyo announced his decision to quit politics and also resign as a Lok Sabha MP on social media. The two-time Asansol MP, who was part of the Union Council of Ministers under PM Modi for the past seven years, was upset at being dropped in the recent Cabinet reshuffle.

Pulwama attack conspirator killed in J&K encounter
A top Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) commander and another militant were killed in a gunfight in south Kashmir’s Pulwama Saturday morning. Police claimed the commander Mohd Ismail Alvi hailed from Masood Azhar’s family and was involved in the conspiracy and planning of 2019 Lethpora Pulwama car bomb blast.

Indore, first city in India to be selected for international clean air catalyst programme
The project will be operated for a period of five years to purify the air in the city with the cooperation of Indore Municipal Corporation and Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board. Under the project, US agency for International Development (USAID) and partners will work with local communities to better understand local pollution sources and identify, test, accelerate, and scale solutions for cleaner, healthier air. The programme’s aim is to combat air pollution in low and middle-income countries by accelerating clean air solutions.

Judge killing case: Supreme Court seeks report from Jharkhand
The Supreme court has ordered the Jharkhand chief secretary and the DGP to submit a report on the investigations of the alleged killing of Dhanbad additional district judge Uttam Anand. This has come about due to the rising number of attacks on judges and lawyers across the country.

Australia faces a severe labour crunch
Australia has released a Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL) - a list of skilled occupations that the Australian government has assessed will be needed to fill critical skills needed to support Australia’s economic recovery. Visa applications from applicants with an occupation on the PMSOL list will be given priority processing under 4 visa subclasses. This means if you qualify, you will be granted an exemption to travel to Australia.

SBI waives processing fees on home loans till August 31
SBI has waived processing fees for new home loans till August 31 through its limited period Monsoon Dhamaka offer. They have undertaken this as a move to revive consumer sentiments as customers can gain substantially from it. The country's largest lender currently charges 0.40 per cent processing fees for home loans.
