Israel-Gaza violence erupts for first time since end of last month’s fighting
Israel mounted airstrikes in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, the first since the end of 11 days of cross-border fighting last month, in response to incendiary balloons launched from the Palestinian territory. The flare-up, a first test for Israel’s new government, followed a march in East Jerusalem on Tuesday by Jewish nationalists that had drawn threats of action by Hamas, the ruling militant group in Gaza.

Crude oils hit new high due to increased demand
Crude oil futures hit a fresh high for 2021 and highest since October 10, 2018, on the prospect of higher demand boosted by economic recovery and tighter supply. Twitter loses intermediary status in India
Twitter will now be responsible for the posts and will not be treated as a third party in India. Twitter became the first US-based social media platform to lose legal protection in India, following a series of events that amplified the disagreement between the government and the social media platform. Twitter, however, continues to maintain its cooperative stance and has said that it is making every effort to comply with the new guideline. Twitter will now be held responsible for the data hosted by it. It will not be considered as a platform hosting something that somebody has tweeted, but it will be editorially responsible for the posts.

Felix beats 'idol' Federer to reach Halle QF
Felix Auger-Aliassime beat former World No. 1 Roger Federer, triumphing 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals at the Noventi Open in Halle.
Federer, who has lifted the trophy in Halle a record 10 times, was playing against the 20-year-old for the first time. The pair share the same birthday, 8 August, but are separated by 19 years – the biggest age difference in Federer’s 1,521 career matches.

MacKenzie Scott gives away another $2.7 billion to charity
MacKenzie Scott, the billionaire philanthropist and ex-wife of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, announced Tuesday she has given away another $2.7 billion to hundreds of organizations tackling a variety of causes. Scott said she donated to 286 “high-impact organizations” focused on a variety of causes, ranging from the arts and racial justice to higher education and combating domestic violence.

Biden and Putin meet for the first time in Geneva
US President Joe Biden and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin are meeting for their first, highly-anticipated summit. The talks in Geneva, Switzerland, come at a time when both sides describe relations as being at rock bottom.
Discussions are set to include arms control and US allegations of Russian cyber-attacks.
No major breakthroughs are expected but there are hopes of finding small areas of agreement. Neither the US nor Russia currently has an ambassador in-country, and Russia recently included the US on its official list of "unfriendly states".

Saudi Arabia executes 26-year old man who protested against the govt as a minor
Saudi Arabia executed a 26-year-old for protesting against the government. Mustafa al-Darwish was arrested for protesting against the government in May 2015, when he was 17 years old. Al-Darwish's family received no advance notice of his execution, according to human rights groups, Reprieve.
