Covaxin shows 77.8% efficacy in phase 3 trial
Covaxin has shown an efficacy of 77.8% as per phase three clinical trials data submitted to the Drugs Controller of India. The data will also be reviewed by the WHO on June 23 in a “pre-submission meeting”.

India to implement tighter e-commerce rules
The Union Government has proposed sweeping changes to India’s Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020. These rules would impact a large swathe of players, especially companies like Flipkart and Amazon. It further states that e-commerce entities cannot allow “any display or promotion of misleading advertisement whether in the course of business on its platform or otherwise.”

Gujarat announces EV policy; subsidies up to 1.5 lakh
Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani announced the ‘Gujarat Electric Vehicle Policy’ which, according to him, has been designed to see at least two lakh electric vehicles on the state roads in the next four years.
To encourage people to turn to e-vehicles, the state government would provide subsidies ranging from INR 20,000 to INR 1,50,000 on the purchase of vehicles under this policy, which will remain effective for four years.

Delta Plus variant of coronavirus spreading in India, 3 states report cases
According to a report by Livehindustan, Delta Plus, also known as ‘AY.1’ variant or B.1.617.2.1, is considered to be the most dangerous variant of Covid-19.
Maharashtra, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh have reported cases of the Delta Plus variant in the country.

UEFA rejects plan for Pride flag on stadium for Germany vs Hungary match
UEFA said it believes the gesture has a political context after receiving a request to fly the Pride flag from Munich’s mayor, Dieter Reiter.UEFA said the mayor’s reason for the request was a response to the legislation passed in Hungary that bans gay people from appearing in school educational materials for under-18s.

Gujarat Liquor Prohibition challenged in High Court invoking 'Right to Privacy'
The Gujarat High Court yesterday heard a batch of petitions challenging the prohibition on manufacture, sale, and consumption of liquor in the state vide the Gujarat Prohibition Act, 1949.
The petition challenges the said law on grounds of ‘manifest arbitrariness’ and violation of ‘right to privacy’.
A Division Bench of Chief Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Biren Vaishnav will continue hearing the matter today.

Narada case: Supreme Court judge recuses himself from hearing Mamata appeal
Supreme Court judge Justice Aniruddha Bose, on Tuesday, recused himself from hearing appeals filed by West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Law Minister Moloy Ghatak and West Bengal government against the Calcutta HC’s refusal to immediately consider their affidavits countering allegations about their role on the day of arrest of four TMC leaders by the CBI in the Narada sting tape case.
His recusal comes within a few days of another former Calcutta HC judge, Justice Indira Banerjee, withdrawing from hearing a petition filed by the families of two BJP activists allegedly killed in the post-poll violence in West Bengal.

"Fair and reasonable": Supreme Court on Class 12 marking scheme
The Supreme Court approved of the scheme proposed by the CBSE and CISCE to calculate the marks for students of Class 12 this year since their regular exams have been cancelled due to Covid.
Rejecting a plea by some parents and students who had sought an option of physical examination initially, a vacation bench of Justices AM Khanwilkar and Dinesh Maheshwari called the education boards' proposals "fair and reasonable".
Up to 1,152 students filed a joint petition seeking direction to the CBSE for cancellation of Class 12 private compartment examinations. They also demanded parity with regular students.
