India conducts a record 40 crore COVID-19 tests, with an average of more than 18 lakh tests per day in the month of June. India has tested 40,18,11,892 samples across the country till Friday. The country tested 35 crore COVID-19 samples till June 1, 2021.

J&J Covid vaccine likely to be available in India by July
Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine could arrive in India as early as July, though it will be limited to a few thousand doses initially. The one-shot vaccine will be priced at $25(about INR 1850) in India. According to the World Health Organization, the vaccine's efficacy is 66.3 per cent for mild to moderate COVID-19 and 76.3 per cent for severe to critical infections.

Derek Chauvin gets 22.5 years in prison for George Floyd's death
Derek Chauvin, a former Minneapolis police officer convicted for murdering George Floyd last year, has been sentenced to 22.5 years in prison. According to CNN, prosecutors had asked for a 30-year sentence, and Chauvin’s attorney asked for probation and time served.

Third COVID-19 wave unlikely to be as severe as second: ICMR
A study titled ‘Plausibility of the third wave of Covid-19 in India: A mathematical modeling based analysis’ found that the substantial impending third wave of Covid-19 might not be as severe as the second wave. It is conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in collaboration with the Imperial College of London. It highlighted the importance of mass vaccination drive and termed it the safest way to help build immunity against the deadly virus and for all the impending future strains.

India successfully test-fired an advanced version of Pinaka rocket system and 122-mm caliber rocket from a test facility off Odisha coast. The enhanced range version of the Pinaka system can destroy targets at distances up to 45 km.

Israel reinstates indoor mask rule
The Israeli government told residents they need to start wearing face masks indoors again because of an uptick in coronavirus infections that health authorities think is caused by the Delta variant. The government dropped the indoor mask mandate 10 days ago except for people on airplanes and unvaccinated people in long-term health care facilities.
