Outcry over South Africa's multiple husbands proposal
A proposal by the South African government to legalise polyandry - when a woman has more than one husband at the same time - has led to howls of protest from conservative quarters. South Africa has one of the world's most liberal constitutions, embracing same-sex marriages for all and polygamy for men.
"African societies are not ready for true equality. We don't know what to do with women we cannot control," Professor Collis Machoko, a renowned academic, told the BBC.

India successfully test-fires Agni Prime missile off Odisha coast
India, on Monday, successfully test-fired its new generation nuclear-capable Agni Prime missile from a defence base off Odisha coast, an official statement by DRDO said. The surface-to-surface ballistic missile has a range of 1000 to 2000 km, it said.
The sleek missile, an advanced variant in the Agni series, was test-fired from a mobile launcher off the Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha at 10.55 am, said a DRDO source.

1 lakh crore loan guarantee scheme for Covid affected sectors: FM Nirmala Sitharaman
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, on Monday, announced a credit guarantee scheme worth INR 1.1 lakh crore for COVID-affected sectors. The government has earmarked INR 50,000 crore out of this for scaling up the healthcare sector, she added.
"Loans will be given to the smallest borrowers by micro-finance institutions. A maximum of INR 1.25 lakh will be lent. The focus is on new lending and not on repayment of old loans," Sitharaman told reporters.
She also said that the interest rate on the new credit guarantee scheme is 2% below the RBI prescribed rate, with a loan duration of 3 years.

Covishield not on EU vaccine 'Green Pass' list: Adar Poonawalla says issue will be resolved soon
People with Covishield, made by AstraZeneca and manufactured by the Serum Institute of India (SII), are likely to be ineligible for the European Union's (EU) 'Green Pass' as the vaccine has not yet been recognised by the European Medical Agency (EMA).
SII CEO Adar Poonawalla said on Monday that he had taken up the issue of the European Union's new 'vaccine passport' scheme not recognising the India-made version of the Oxford jab at the "highest levels".

Govt to look into Twitter displaying distorted map of India
Amid a stand-off with the Indian government over compliance with new IT rules, the Twitter website is displaying a wrong map of India, showing Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh as a separate country. The glaring distortion appears on the career section of Twitter website under the header ‘Tweep Life’.
This is the second time Twitter has misrepresented India’s map. Earlier, it had shown Leh as part of China.Â

J&K: Following 'forcible conversion' of Sikh girls, Akal Takht demands anti-conversion law in UT
After reports of alleged ‘abduction and forcible conversion’ of two Sikh girls in Jammu and Kashmir, Akal Takht Sahib, on Sunday, demanded an anti-conversion law in the UT, similar to the ones implemented in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
The ‘Nikah’ (marriage) of a Sikh girl (18), who her parents said is specially-abled, was allegedly done with a person aged above 60 years in Rainawari, Srinagar. Her family said that she went missing on Monday and was abducted at gunpoint.
