Ban on international flights till July 31: DGCA
The DGCA has extended the ban on scheduled international flights till July 31. While domestic flights resumed in May, international travel remained suspended as COVID-19 cases remained at high levels. India had initially started the Vande Bharat Mission repatriation exercise that allowed Indian nationals to return home. Later, air travel bubbles were introduced.

India enters Top 10 in Global Cybersecurity Index 2020 rankings
India entered the top 10 of a global cybersecurity ranking of countries, ahead of China at No. 33, and Pakistan at No. 79. India improved its ranking from 47 to 10 in the United Nations ITU Global Cybersecurity Agenda (GCA). The US is ranked first, followed by the UK. The rankings come at a time when the government has been dealing with several instances of cross-border cyber attacks.

Three more drones spotted in Jammu
Within days after a drone attack at the Indian Air Force station (IAF) Jammu, three more drones were spotted in the Kaluchak area of the region. The security agencies have been put on a high alert after a series of incidents following the Sunday attack at the IAF station. The security personnel have been asked to shoot the drones even as a larger policy to tackle the challenge is being worked out in New Delhi with the involvement of the PMO.

Delhi witnesses first heat wave of 2021
The maximum temperature in Delhi touched 43 degrees Celsius, which was the highest recording this year, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) classifying it as the first heatwave day this season. In the plains, heatwave days are classified as when the maximum temperature crosses 40 degrees Celsius, and when the day temperature exceeds the region’s normal maximum temperature by 4.5 degrees Celsius.

Supreme Court gives Centre 6 weeks to frame guidelines for compensation for COVID-19 deaths
A bench comprising of Justices Ashok Bhushan and MR Shah directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to frame guidelines on the ex-gratia compensation within six weeks. The petitioners wanted the Supreme Court to direct the Centre and states to provide ex-gratia compensation of INR 4 lakh to the family members of those who succumbed to COVID-19 disease and post-COVID complications.

China declared Malaria free by WHO
China was officially certified ‘malaria-free’ by the World Health Organization (WHO), becoming the second country in the Asia Pacific region to get the tag, after Sri Lanka in 2016. China has now maintained zero indigenous malaria cases for four consecutive years, down from an estimated 30 million cases and 300,000 deaths per year in the 1940s.

Record-breaking heat wave grips Canada
Dozens have died in Canada since Friday as temperatures hit a record high of 49.1°C in the past four days. These deaths are likely linked to a grueling heat wave amid scorching conditions that have extended to the US Pacific Northwest. The country's weather service, Environment Canada, has issued heat warnings for the provinces of British Columbia and Alberta, along with areas of Saskatchewan, the Northwest Territories and Manitoba.

LinkedIn denies reports of 'fresh' breach
LinkedIn said its users trust LinkedIn with their data while denying reports of an alleged data breach that could put over 700 million users in jeopardy. LinkedIn released a statement on its website, clarifying that the alleged data breach didn’t happen and no user data was at risk. The statement was issued by LinkedIn after reports claimed data of over 700 million or 92% of its 756 million users has been exposed in a “new breach”.

Balaji Srivastav named new Delhi Police commissioner
Balaji Srivastava, an IPS officer of the 1988 batch was handed the additional charge of Commissioner of Police, Delhi. Currently Special Commissioner of Police (Vigilance) in the Delhi Police, he will take charge from Commissioner SN Shrivastava, who retires on Wednesday. Srivastava was handed additional charge by the Ministry of Home Affairs. He has been chosen ahead of Mohd Taj Hassan, a 1987 batch IPS officer.
