Delhi reports 6500 new covid-19 cases with positivity rate down to 11%
Delhi witnessed a steep rise in daily cases since April 1. The number kept going up till April 20, when the national capital recorded its highest-ever single-day tally of over 28,000 cases with a positivity rate of nearly 36 percent. However, after the government imposed a strict curfew, the cases started declining and now it has come to the level last reported on April 8. Things are looking up!

China successfully lands astrobiological rover on Mars
China successfully landed the Zhurong rover on Mars on Saturday, making it the country’s first landing on another planet and the third to perform a successful soft landing, after the former Soviet Union and the USA.
The Zhurong rover is astrobiological in nature- which means that it will search for past or present life on the planet.

Cyclone Tauktae likely to hit coastal Gujarat
Cyclonic storm Tauktae is expected to hit the west coast, most likely Gujarat and Diu, by Tuesday. The NDRF is sending more than 50 teams in these five states - Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Maharashtra.
Moreover, PM Modi will also be chairing a meeting for preparations with officials from the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) and other top executives of the government.

India set to resurrect the '101 squadron' with 4 more Rafale jets
The Indian Air Force (IAF) is set to restore the 101 “Falcons of Chamb '' squadron at Hashimara in West Bengal along with another batch of four Rafale fighters which will be landing at Ambala Air Base from Merignac-Bordeaux airbase in France on May 19-20. The exact date of Rafale landing in India will be determined by availability of mid-air refuellers of the UAE Air Force and weather conditions.

Cairn Energy Sues Air India for $1.2 billion arbitration award over tax dispute
British oil and gas firm, Cairn Energy moved a US court to sue Air India to enforce a $1.2 billion arbitration award that it won in December last year over a tax dispute with India. The lawsuit seeks to make the flagship carrier liable for the amount it won in the judgement, arguing that Air India is a state-owned company and is therefore "legally indistinct from the state itself." India had lost arbitration proceedings in December 2020 with Cairn Energy and was directed to pay almost $1.7 billion.

Misuse of steroids major cause behind mucormycosis infection: AIIMS chief
AIIMS director Dr. Randeep Guleria warned that the mucormycosis infection ( ‘black fungus’) is caused due to misuse of steroids since a weak immune system makes our bodies more vulnerable to the disease. Injections like Remdesivir are immunosuppressors. Also, he said that diabetic or Covid positive patients taking steroids have a heightened probability of contracting it.

France bans schools from using 'gender-neutral' words in French
The government of France has directed schools across the country to stop using ‘gender-neutral’ spelling of words, arguing that the practice threatens the existence of the French language. For example, the French word ‘dirigeants’ means ‘leaders’ but has a masculine tone to the word. So, gender-inclusive activists and speakers advocated for putting an ‘e’ - symbolizing femininity - before the end of the term with a midpoint to make the word gender-neutral. So, ‘dirigeant•es’ would mean that men and women both can be leaders.

Delhi court issues non-bailable warrant against wrestler Sushil Kumar
A Delhi court on Saturday issued non-bailable warrants against two-time Olympic medalist Sushil Kumar and nine others connected with the murder of a 23-year-old former junior national wrestling champion, Sagar Rana. Sources say that the Delhi Police have also decided to announce a reward for Sushil Kumar’s arrest.
