Calcutta HC sends TMC leaders to jail after CBI cites Mamata Banerjee’s dharna
In the latest turn of events of the Narada sting operation’s enquiry by the CBI, the two TMC ministers’ bail was rescinded by the Calcutta High Court on Monday. This was done because the CBI appealed for a transfer of the case, specifying security threats to the agency’s officers.
In support of this plea, the CBI mentioned the violent demonstrations and stone pelting that happened at CM Mamta Banerjee’s office by TMC workers during their visit.

270 doctors have died of Covid-19 in second wave of pandemic: IMA
According to The Indian Medical Association (IMA), 270 Doctors including former IMA president Dr. K K Aggarwal have succumbed to the coronavirus infection in the second wave of the pandemic till 18th May.
Among the 270, Bihar saw a maximum number of 78 deaths of medical practitioners, followed by Uttar Pradesh (37), Delhi (29) and Andhra Pradesh (22).

Live-in relationship morally, socially not acceptable: Punjab HC
The Punjab and Haryana High Court recently said that Live-in relationships are socially and morally unacceptable, while declining to grant protection to a couple seeking protection of their life.
Earlier a 19-year-old woman from Uttar Pradesh and a 22-year-old man from Punjab filed a petition in the High Court seeking directions to Punjab Police to protect their life and liberty from the woman’s family.

Rupee continues winning streak, closes At 7week high of 73.05 against the dollar
Continuing its winning streak this week, the rupee rose by 17 paise to close at a seven-week high of 73.05 against the US dollar on Tuesday. Positive domestic equities and weakening of the American currency is the reason behind the strengthening of the rupee.
The rupee opened at 73.18 at the interbank forex market and hit an intraday high of 72.95 and a low of 73.18 during the session.

Tokyo Doctors' Association calls For Olympics cancellation
A group of Japanese doctors are calling for the cancellation of the Olympics, despite the fact that multiple medics have applied to volunteer at the event.
The public opinion is still adamant in opposing it, with less than 10 weeks to the scheduled time for the event.
As the country faces a surge in infections, the organizers are insistent to ensure the event’s safety by following appropriate countermeasures on the basis of effective test scenarios.

India has 26 cases of bleeding, clotting after Covishield vaccine: Govt report
On Monday a government panel on AEFI (adverse events following immunisation) has found 26 potential cases of bleeding and clotting after administration of the Covid-19 vaccine, Covishield, the health ministry said.
The AEFI Committee said it had studied 498 (of 700) "serious and severe events" and found that only 26 had been reported as "potential thromboembolic events", referring to the potentially fatal formation of a blood clot that could break loose and be carried by the bloodstream to block another vessel.
The ministry separately released advisories to healthcare workers and vaccine beneficiaries to encourage people to be aware of suspected thromboembolic symptoms. The list of symptoms mentioned in the ministry's advisory are:
