Satendra Chaudhary, the father of Squadron Leader Abhinav Choudhary has appealed to the government to discontinue the obsolete aircraft. Abhinav Choudhary was killed after his MiG-21 aircraft crashed near Punjab's Moga.
MiG-21 has been in service since the early 1960s. More than 20 MiG 21s have been involved in accidents since 2010, according to data shared by the Defence Ministry with the Parliament at different times. Between 2003 and 2013, 38 MiG 21 aircrafts crashed. Official data also shows that more than 170 pilots have lost their lives in MiG 21 accidents. MiG 21s are often referred to as “flying coffins”.

Sedition case: Supreme Court grants bail to rebel YSRCP MP
Andhra Pradesh’s Lok Sabha MP, K Raghu Rama has been granted bail by the Supreme Court on Friday citing possible ill-treatment while in custody.
Rama claimed he was tortured in custody by police. A three-member medical board of government doctors ruled he had no injuries. Contrary to this finding, however, the Supreme Court found on Friday that the MP had a fractured toe and injuries in his leg, leading to swelling, contusions and clotting.
The rebel YSR Congress Party leader was arrested on May 14 on various charges, including sedition, for "indulging in hate speeches against certain communities and promoting disaffection against the government".

Air India hit by massive data breach, flyer data compromised
India’s national air carrier Air India was struck with a massive cyberattack on Friday, potentially breaching the personal data of 4.5 million customers registered between August 26, 2011, and February 20, 2021. Information such as passport and credit card details seem to have most probably been leaked in this cyber attack. Air India claims to have launched an investigation into the incident and taken steps including securing the compromised servers, engaging external specialists of data security incidents, contacting credit card issuers and resetting passwords of its frequent flyer programme.

Government asks Twitter to remove ‘manipulated media’ tag from tweets related to covid-19 toolkit
After BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra’s tweet on the alleged ‘Congress Toolkit’ was flagged as ‘manipulated media’, the Union Government has asked Twitter to remove the tag as the matter is still an ongoing investigation.
This has come after Twitter flagged tweets of 5 more BJP leaders as ‘manipulated media’ on Friday. The Centre has further added that Twitter has unilaterally drawn a biased conclusion in this matter.
Sambit Patra's tweet on May 18, shared by several BJP leaders, had screenshots of what he called a "Congress toolkit" aimed at smearing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the government's handling of Covid.

Cyclone Yaas likely to intensify into very severe cyclonic storm: IMD
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that Cyclone Yaas is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm on the coasts of West Bengal and Odisha on May 26.
A low-pressure area is forming over the east-central Bay of Bengal and North Andaman Sea, which indicates the first stage of a cyclone formation.
The April-May and the October-December periods are also known to witness cyclones.
Last year in may two cyclones, one in the Bay of Bengal (super cyclonic storm Amphan) and the other in the Arabian Sea (severe cyclonic storm Nisarga), hit the Indian coasts.

Delhi suspends COVID-19 vaccination for 18-44 age group from today
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday, May 22 said that the COVID-19 vaccination drive for 18-44 years age group is being closed in the national capital due to lack of doses.
AAP MLA Atishi Marlena had raised concerns about the vaccine shortage in Delhi last week, and 235 out of 368 centres were already closed for this age group.

Tokyo Olympics on schedule, says International Olympic Committee chief Thomas Bach despite Japanese opposition
International Olympic Committee chief Thomas Bach on Saturday asserted that the Tokyo Olympics will go on as scheduled, despite opposition from the majority of the Japanese population amid the raging COVID-19 pandemic. The IOC President said hosting the Olympics- already postponed by a year in 2020 due to the unprecedented health crisis- will send a strong message that there is still "light at the end of the tunnel."
While most Japanese are not in favour of hosting the Games due to the strain it is expected to put on the country's medical infrastructure in the wake of the pandemic, the IOC remained adamant.

Wrestler Sushil Kumar arrested in Chhatrasal Stadium brawl case
The Delhi Police on Saturday arrested two-time Olympic medallist, wrestler Sushil Kumar and his right hand Ajay. They were accused for Sagar Rana’s murder in the Chhatrasal Stadium brawl case. The Delhi Police has caught both of them in Punjab. According to sources, preparations are being made to bring them to Delhi for questioning.
