Take care of children orphaned by Covid; Supreme Court directs states
On Friday, the Supreme Court directed the state authorities to immediately identify the children orphaned due to COVID and provide relief to them. The Court said that it could not even imagine how many children must’ve become orphaned due to this devastating pandemic.
Further, it also asked the state governments to take needful action for the starving kids in such difficult times without waiting for any orders from the courts. District administrators have been notified to identify such cases and upload that data to the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) website by Saturday evening.

India slams Twitter's concerns over threat to free speech
Twitter has faced yet another condemnation from the Indian Government on Thursday regarding the statement issued by the social media giant that alleged intimation by the police over the ‘manipulated media’ tag. Twitter cited this incident as a threat to the company’s freedom of expression. However, the government replied by calling it out as a “baseless and false” statement and termed this action a questionable attempt to school the world's largest democracy.
In addition to this, the IT ministry, while asserting India’s proud tradition of democracy and free speech, conveyed their stance, stating that all the social media companies, including Twitter, "are and will always remain safe in India" and assured that there is "no threat to their personal safety and security.”

Caribbean court stays immediate repatriation of Mehul Choksi to India
Fugitive Mehul Choksi’s immediate repatriation notice has been put on hold by the court of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States even after Indian Investigators’ repeated pressures for his release.
Choksi was captured in Dominica after he went missing from Antigua & Barbuda. Consequently, the diamond merchant’s lawyers filed a habeas corpus or a writ that seeks to bring a prisoner or other detainee before the court to determine if the person’s imprisonment or detention is lawful in the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC).

Ban on international passenger flights extended till June 30, travel to continue under air bubbles
The government on Friday extended the international commercial flights ban till June 30, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said in a circular. The previous deadline for flight suspension was to end on May 31. India has formed air bubble pacts with 27 countries, including the US, the UK, the UAE, Kenya, Bhutan and France. Under an air bubble pact between two countries, their airlines can operate special international flights between their territories.

NCB arrests Sushant Singh Rajput's friend Siddharth Pithani
Around a year after Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead, his flatmate Siddharth Pithani has been arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in a drug case. The arrest comes almost two and half months after NCB filed a 12,000-page charge sheet against 33 people, including actress Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik and others in the alleged Bollywood drugs mafia probe case linked to Sushant's death on June 14, 2020

Delhi to start unlocking from Monday
On Friday, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said there would be gradual unlocking in the Capital starting from May 31 as the Covid-19 situation is coming under control. Only construction activities and factories will be reopened from Monday, keeping the interest of the daily wagers in mind. Everything else will remain shut. The CM said a detailed guideline would be issued, urging people not to come out of their houses unless necessary.

ICC announces playing conditions for World Test championship final between India and New Zealand. India finished at the top of the points table with 12 wins in 17 matches while New Zealand won 7 out of 7 matches it played.
India and New Zealand will be adjudged joint winners if their final clash in Southampton ends in a draw or tie.
The ICC has also allocated a Reserve Day to make up for any lost time during the regular days of the Final, scheduled to be played from 18 to 22 June, with 23 June set aside as the Reserve Day.
The final decision on whether the Reserve Day needs to be used will be announced at the scheduled start of the last hour on the fifth day.
