DCGI gives emergency approval of DRDO-developed anti-Covid oral drug
An anti-COVID-19 therapeutic application of the drug 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG) has been developed by INMAS, a lab of DRDO, in collaboration with Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, Hyderabad. The drug will help in faster recovery of Covid-19 patients. DRDO's 2-DG drug accumulates in virus-infected cells. It prevents virus growth by stopping viral synthesis and energy production, according to the Defence Ministry.
India and EU relaunch FTA talks and sign connectivity partnership
The free trade negotiations between India and the European Union resumed yesterday after they were suspended back in 2013 as a part of the Bilateral Trade and Investment Agreement (BTIA). Due to the ongoing pandemic, this summit was held virtually which was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, EU chiefs Ursula Von der Leyen and Charles Michel along with 27 European leaders gathered in Porto, Portugal.
Covid positive report no longer mandatory for hospital admission
The Health Ministry on Saturday revised hospital admission guidelines for people with Covid and directed states to ensure all suspect patients are admitted and given access to oxygen and drugs like any patient who has a Covid-positive report. The change comes at a time when Covid testing has reduced due to drastic load on the system and India is attempting to seek intellectual property waiver at the WTO not just for vaccines, but also medicines and diagnostics.
Army inducts first batch of women into the Corps of Military Police
The Indian Army on Saturday inducted the first batch of women into the Corps of Military Police, this is the first time women have joined the military in the non-officer cadre.
It plans to induct 800 women into the military police with a yearly intake of 52 women who will serve as personnel below officer rank.
Also, The army will soon open the doors of its aviation wing too for women officers. Until now, women officers were only carrying out ground duties in army aviation.
