NASA image shows a river of smoke over Delhi
A vast "river of smoke" was seen stretching from Punjab & Haryana across Delhi on recent satellite images released by NASA. The photo showed 'red dots', which represent large-scale farm fires set in Punjab and Haryana, resulting in a thick plume of smoke enveloping the capital on November 11, 2021, adding to the toxicity of its air. About 22 million people were affected by smoke on this one day.

Submission doesn't mean consent for sex
Consent for sex cannot be assumed just because a girl or a woman is in love with a man, the Kerala High Court has held. It clarified the difference between consent and submission, and stated that helplessness in the face of inevitable compulsion cannot be considered as consent. The court was considering an appeal filed by a 26-year-old man who forced his lover to elope with him by threatening that he would commit suicide.

Harris becomes the 1st woman US President for a brief period
Presidential powers were transferred to Vice President Kamala Harris for a total of 1 hour 25 minutes while President Joe Biden was under anesthetic for a routine colonoscopy, the White House said on Friday. Harris made history during this short time by becoming the first woman, person of color, and person of South Asian descent to serve as an acting president.

Radioactive cargo from Pak to China seized at Mundra port
A Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) team confiscated several containers with hazardous cargo en route from Karachi in Pakistan to Shanghai in China on a foreign vessel. While the shipment was listed as non-hazardous, the seized containers had Hazard Class 7 markings - indicating radioactive substances.

World's first electric autonomous cargo ship launched in Norway
The world's first fully-electric autonomous cargo vessel was unveiled in Norway in a step toward reducing the maritime industry's climate footprint. By shipping up to 120 containers of fertilizer from a plant in the southeastern town of Porsgrunn to the Brevik port 12 kilometers away, it will eliminate the need for around 40,000 truck journeys a year fueled by polluting diesel.

RIL-Aramco deal withdrawn
Reliance Industries has withdrawn its application with the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) after signing a letter of intent with the top oil exporter, Saudi Aramco to potentially acquire a 20% stake in a USD 15 billion deal in its oil-to-chemicals (O2C) arm. The latter's stake is being re-evaluated in a mutual decision, as Reliance has new energy business plans, and its portfolio is constantly "evolving".

India has been re-elected to the UNESCO Executive Board for the 2021-25 term. “India gets re-elected to the Executive Board of UNESCO with 164 votes for the term 2021-25," the Paris-based Permanent Delegation of India to UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) tweeted.

The Swachh Survekshan 2021 awards were announced on November 20, 2021 by President Ram Nath Kovind. Indore has once again been named as the cleanest city in India for the 5th consecutive year. Surat in Gujarat grabbed the second position while Vijayawada of Andhra Pradesh has taken the third spot.
