Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on November 12, 2021, unveiled two highly anticipated schemes of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) — the RBI Retail Direct scheme that will allow one to invest directly in government securities, and the Integrated Ombudsman scheme that aims to simplify the process of grievance redressal easier.

CISF takes measures to aid the differently-abled

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), some NGOs and chief airport officials have decided to form a committee of stakeholders to examine issues faced by persons with disabilities. Personnel will be specially trained to carry out sensitive security checks of the differently-abled. An app will be developed to facilitate seamless pre-departure security checks for persons with disabilities.

India has announced its team for the 2 tests against NZ. Virat Kohli has been rested for the 1st test but will lead the team in the 2nd test. Bumrah, Shami, Rohit, Pant, Thakur have been rested for both matches.

As per an analysis published in The Lancet, Bharat Biotech's home-grown COVID-19 vaccine, Covaxin was found to have a 77.8% efficacy rate against symptomatic COVID-19, and "induces a robust antibody response" 2 weeks after the 2 doses are given. This analysis evaluated 130 confirmed cases, with 24 observed in the vaccine group versus 106 in the placebo group.

The Defence Ministry has again extended the emergency powers given to the Army, the Navy, the Air Force and the Integrated Defence Staff (IDS) for urgent works & revenue procurements, as tensions with China continue along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. The extension of emergency powers for revenue procurements through a fast-track process is given for 3 more months.

Automatic job authorisation in the US for spouses of H-1B visa holders

The US government has agreed to give automatic authorization permits for work to spouses of H-1B visa holders - a move which would benefit thousands of Indian-American women. The settlement was reached due to a class-action lawsuit filed by the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) on behalf of immigrant spouses.

The much-awaited 340.8 km long, 6-lane Purvanchal Expressway - the longest expressway in Uttar Pradesh - will be inaugurated by PM Modi on November 16, 2021. Despite COVID-19 related challenges, the construction was completed in record 36 months. Purvanchal Expressway will pass through 9 districts of UP, and commuters will not have to pay toll fees initially. The speed limit has been set at 100 km/h.

On November 12, 2021, the Central Government granted Permanent Commission (PC) to 11 women army officers who meet the eligibility criteria, after the Supreme Court (SC) threatened to hold the army guilty of contempt of court. In addition, women officers who have not approached the court but meet the various eligibility criteria would be granted PC in 3 weeks.

On Thursday, Nithin and Nikhil Kamath, the co-founders of Zerodha, announced that they had pledged a quarter of their wealth to philanthropy, joining several other billionaires worldwide who have taken similar steps. The Kamath brother has a combined wealth of INR 37,000 Crore (USD 4.9 Billion), according to IIFL Hurun Rich List 2021.
