Play Store subscription services fee to reduce by 15%
As tech giant Google faces increased scrutiny over its app store practices, Google is lowering its app store fees for all subscription-based services from the existing 30% to 15% from January 1, 2022. A fee as low as 10% will be levied on its e-books and on-demand music streaming services.

Canada announces COVID vaccine passport
On October 21, Justin Trudeau's Canadian government announced the launching of a "standardized" COVID-19 vaccine passport for its citizens, which includes a person's name, date of birth, and COVID-19 inoculation history. The digital document will have a QR code for scanning at transport entries, making travelling abroad easier for Canadians.

41% more rainfall in India from Oct 1-21: IMD
IMD data showed that India got 41% more rainfall than usual from October 1-21, with Uttarakhand alone recording more than 5 times its average precipitation. Of the 694 districts in the country, 45% (311 districts in 16 states and union territories) recorded rainfall in "large excess" and 14% (96 districts in 6 states and U.T.s).

Pakistan to remain on Grey List
The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) announced that Pakistan would continue to be on its "Grey List" as "further demonstration" is needed to prove some action is being taken against UN-designated terrorists like Hafiz Saeed and Masood Azhar and their affiliations. Pakistan has continued to be on the Grey List since 2018 due to failure to comply with the FATF mandates.

Google to invest in Meesho
According to various reports, Google plans to invest over USD 50 million in Indian social commerce startup Meesho, currently valued at USD 4.9 billion. Over 13 million individual entrepreneurs have started their online businesses with zero investment, with Meesho benefitting more than 45 million consumers in the country.

Fuel price hiked again
Petrol and diesel prices continue to soar for the third consecutive day, by 35 paise on Friday. In the capital Delhi, petrol and diesel rose to INR 106.89/L and INR 95.62/L, respectively. In Mumbai, petrol is priced at INR 112.79/L and diesel at INR 103.73/L. Ganganagar in Rajasthan saw the highest fuel price hike at INR 119.05/L for petrol and INR 109.88/L for diesel.

Prop gun fired by Alec Baldwin on movie set kills cinematographer
Rust' actor Alec Baldwin fired a loaded prop gun which fatally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, and injured director Joel South, 48, while the movie was being documented at a set in New Mexico. No charges have been filed as yet by law informants and further investigation is being done.

Winter session of Parliament from 4th week of November
The Winter session of Parliament is likely to commence from the 4th week of November, following all COVID-19 protocols, parliamentary sources said on Friday. Even though an official decision hasn't been taken yet, the sources said the session could commence from November 29, and end around December 23.
