States to pay nearly INR 20,000 crores to Coal India
States have to pay nearly INR 20,000 Crores to Coal India as dues, said government sources on Tuesday amidst reports of power crisis owing to alleged shortfall of coal stocks. As per the sources, states are not mining enough and are not picking up supplies from Coal India despite reminders, contributing to the current situation.

India to be the fastest-growing economy: IMF
Despite the fall in growth projections after the 2nd COVID wave cut into the recovery momentum, India will be the fastest-growing major economy globally in fiscal 2022, said the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Tuesday. In 2022, the Indian economic growth is projected at 8.5%, while the same for China is 5.6%. The strong performance by India and China will lift the growth for ‘emerging and developing Asia’ to 6.3%.

IGL hikes CNG and PNG prices
On Tuesday, Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) hiked the prices of both Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) in several cities. PNG will now be INR 38.37 per scm in Muzzaffarnagar, Meerut and Shamli, while CNG will be priced at INR 65.02 per kg in Ajmer, Pali & Rajsamand. The updated rates will come into effect from October 13, 2021, at 06:00 am.

NCR may shrink as 'Draft Regional Plan 2041' gets approved
The National Capital Region currently covers around 150-175 kilometres, covering entire districts and their rural areas. However, according to a draft plan focusing on developing NCR's urban areas, approved by the NCR Planning Board on Tuesday, it will shrink to a 100-km radius. A detailed draft plan will soon be made public for suggestions and objections.

INR 100 lakh crores GatiShakti plan launched by PM Modi
PM Modi officially launched the national master plan for the Pradhan Mantri GatiShakti project on October 13, 2021. The project is an initiative to improve planning and coordination among government agencies for infrastructure projects. Some initiatives under the program include having 2 lakh km of national highways, a total of 220 airports, airstrips and aerodromes, doubling gas pipeline network to 35,000 km and a 25000-acre area developed for industries by 2024-25.

US to reopen land borders in November for fully vaccinated
After a 19-month freeze due to the pandemic, the US will reopen its land borders for non-essential travel next month. People travelling to the country will need to be fully vaccinated. Until now, travel between the US and Canada and Mexico has been restricted mainly to essential travel. By mid-January, even essential travellers like truck drivers will need to be fully vaccinated.

Top JeM terrorist commander killed in Pulwama
According to the police, the terrorist commander of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), Sham Sofi, was killed in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. Security forces had launched a cordon and search operation, acting on specific inputs about the presence of terrorists. Pursuant to this, an encounter broke out, killing the militant.
