WHO approves world's first malaria vaccine
The WHO recommends extensive use of the RTS, S/AS01 malaria vaccine among children with moderate to high P. falciparum malaria transmission in a historical event. The vaccine results from 30 years of R&D by British pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in partnership with the international NPO 'Program for Appropriate Technology in Health' (PATH) and with a network of research centres in Africa.

SC to hear Lakhimpur Kheri violence case today
The Supreme Court Wednesday took suo motu cognisance of the recent Lakhimpur Kheri violence. 8 people were killed in total, 4 allegedly run over by a vehicle owned by Union Minister of State and BJP MP Ajay Kumar Mishra Teni and 4 others were killed in the resulting violence. A bench led by CJI N V Ramana will hear the matter today.

Telangana develops a smartphone-based eVoting solution
On Wednesday, Telangana said it had developed the country's first smartphone-based eVoting solution. It uses upcoming technologies such as Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain. It has been successfully developed and tested, and its dry run will be conducted on October 20 in the form of a dummy election in the Khammam district.

Strong earthquake in southwest Pak kills at least 20
Reportedly, a powerful 5.9 quake killed 20 and injured almost 300 people in Balochistan early Thursday. According to the Seismological centre, the epicentre was located near Harnai at a depth of 15 km. The quake affected Quetta, Sibi, Harnai, Pishin, Qila Saifullah, Chaman, Ziarat, and Zhob.

India will grant tourist visas to tourists coming through chartered flights
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs said that it would start issuing tourist visas to travellers coming through chartered flights from October 15. The ministry also added that tourists travelling to India via other flights would be granted visas from November 15, keeping all COVID protocols in place.
