S.Korea to donate 1.1 mn doses of COVID-19 vaccine to Vietnam
According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA), South Korea will donate 1.1 mn doses of AstraZeneca's (AZN.L) COVID-19 vaccine to Vietnam and 470,000 doses to Thailand. The vaccines are set to arrive in the country on Wednesday. For the first time, South Korea is directly donating vaccines to foreign nations, except for financial support through the COVAX program.

Domestic flights will operate at total capacity from October 18
The union civil aviation ministry approved the domestic flights to work with 100% capacity from October 18. At present, domestic flights are capped at 85% of their capacity. The development comes as a relief for both airlines and passengers as the festive season rush begins across the country.

Covaxin gets emergency approval for kids aged 2-18 years
The Subject Expert Committee on COVID-19 has approved the emergency use of Bharat Biotech's Covaxin among children aged 2-18 years. In September, Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech had already completed phase-2 and phase-3 trials of Covaxin on children under 18 years of age and submitted the trial data to the Drugs and Comptroller General of India (DCGI) at the start of October.

Centre denies electricity shortage in Delhi
The central government on Tuesday cleared there was no power interruption due to the electricity shortage in Delhi. “The maximum demand of Delhi was 4536 MW (peak) and 96.2 MU (Energy) on October 10 2021. As per the information received from Delhi DISCOMs, there was no outage on account of power shortage, as the required amount of power was supplied to them,” the power ministry said in a statement.

Nirmala Sitharaman leaves for the US to attend G-20, World Bank meetings
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has embarked on a week-long US trip to attend the World Bank and IMF and G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG) meeting. It is the first time since the pandemic that the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank is scheduled in a physical format. During the visit, Sitharaman is expected to meet US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen.

Rajasthan to recall Marriage Registration Bill
The Rajasthan government has decided to withdraw and re-examine the recently passed marriage registration bill, noting concerns that its provisions will promote child marriages. The opposition BJP and rights activists objected to a provision in the bill that allowed marriage registration even if the bride and the groom were not of legal age.
