FDA approves mix and match booster shots
US Food and Drug Authority has authorized heterologous COVID-19 booster shots (mixing and matching), pioneered by Sputnik V, the world's 1st mix and match vaccine that uses adenoviral vectors Ad5 and Ad26. This approval proves the efficacy of the vaccine cocktail approach, claimed the Russian Direct Investment Fund.

Senior Al-Qaeda leader killed by US military
The US military has killed senior al-Qaeda leader, Abdul Hamid al-Matar in a drone strike using an MQ-9 aircraft in Syria, said a US Central Command spokesman Major John Rigsbee. The ongoing war in Syria has created a complex battlefield involving foreign armies, militias and terrorists, with about half a million people dying in the crossfire since 2011.

Dubai Eye: World's largest Ferris wheel opens in Dubai
The world's largest Ferris wheel, Dubai Eye, has been opened to the public in Dubai on Thursday. ‘Ain Dubai’, in Arabic, stands at 250 metres tall and can take around 1,750 visitors in one rotation, which takes just over half an hour. The Crown Prince of Dubai, Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, was filmed sitting atop one of the viewing pods of the wheel in a promotional video marking the grand opening.

COVID death toll rises due to Kerala data revision
Daily COVID-19 deaths increased today after Kerala revised its data to add 292 deaths from the previous period, which took the toll to 666 deaths in the past 24 hours. India reported 16,326 new COVID-19 cases, and active cases have declined to 1.73 lakhs - the lowest since March 2020.

Australia to open doors to Singapore
As Australia's prepares to reopen international travel next month, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said that the country would soon allow Singaporeans to be amongst the first foreign travellers to be allowed into the country, with details of the plan to be revealed next week. Australia currently only permits New Zealanders to enter the country freely.

PhonePe to charge processing fees for mobile recharges through UPI
Reportedly, PhonePe, Walmart group's digital payments firm, has begun charging processing fees of INR 1 & INR 2 per mobile recharge above INR 50, even if done through Unified Payments Interface (UPI). PhonePe is the first digital payments app to charge users for UPI-based transactions, offered free by its competitors like GooglePay and PayTM. The app is also charging processing fees for credit card payments like other players.

Union Home Minister, Amit Shah inaugurates the first direct international flight between Jammu & Kashmir's Srinagar and Sharjah in UAE on the first day of his 3-day visit to J&K. He said that this would help in boosting tourism and bring more investment into the Union Territory. It is his first visit to the union territory since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.

UP to rename Faizabad Railway to Ayodhya Cantt
Yogi Adityanath's Uttar Pradesh Office announced on October 23, 2021 via Twitter, "Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has decided to rename Faizabad railway junction as Ayodhya Cantt”. However, this name change is yet to be approved by the Central Government. Earlier in 2018, the Adityanath Government had renamed Faizabad as Ayodhya.

Tesla looks to ask India's govt to slash import taxes
Tesla Inc. wants to begin selling imported automobiles in India in 2021 but is put off by the country's excessive import taxes. It has urged Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's office to cut back import taxes on electric vehicles before entering the market. However, local Indian manufacturers object to this move as this would dissuade investment in domestic manufacturing.
