Plant-based aircraft fuel by an Indian scientist cuts emission by 68%
Indian-origin scientist, Puneet Dwivedi, made a fuel using mustard plant, which is expected to reduce aircraft emissions by 68%. Puneet Dwivedi from the University of Georgia led the project and used the team to look for a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) made from oil in Brassica Carinata. This oilseed crop is non-edible.

HDFC Bank reports an 18% jump in net profit
Today, India's largest private-sector bank, HDFC Bank reported an 18.1% on-year rise in net profit during the fiscal 3rd quarter. HDFC Bank's standalone net profit stood at INR 8,758 Cr. in the October-December quarter against INR 7,416 Cr. in the same period last year. Both the affordable housing segment and high-end properties saw growth in home loans, said HDFC.

Red alert in 5 Kerala districts, as rain lashes state
As heavy rainfall lashed the state on Saturday, almost 5 districts in Kerala were advised to remain on red alert. An orange alert has been issued in at least 7 other districts, too. Kerala CM, Pinarayi Vijayan, called an emergency meeting in the evening to take stock of the situation. At the same time, the state authorities have banned night-time movement in hilly areas of the state.

Reportedly, the JCO and a soldier went missing after the army came under heavy firing from terrorists in which 2 soldiers were martyred. 4 days earlier, 5 army personnel were killed in action in the same area.

Young Saurashtra cricketer Avi Barot passes away
Saurashtra batter, Avi Barot, a former India Under-19 captain and a part of the Ranji Trophy-winning team in the 2019-20 season, passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest at a young age of 29. He died on Friday while being taken to the hospital as he was feeling unwell at home. The player also represented Haryana and Gujarat in his career. He is survived by his mother and wife, who are expecting the couple's first child.

India has the highest crypto owners globally, with 10.07 Cr. (translating to 7.3%) of the population owning crypto. There is a huge gap in the number of owners between India and the next in line, the United States (2.74 Cr.), followed by Russia (1.74 Cr.) and Nigeria (1.30 Cr). However, India comes 5th in crypto owners as a percentage of the total population.
