Senior BJP leader and first-time legislator, Bhupendrabhai Rajnikanthbhai Patel was sworn in as the new chief minister of Gujarat today after Vijay Rupani's unexpected resignation. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and chief ministers of some BJP-ruled states.

Tamil Nadu govt passes Bill to scrap NEET medical exams

Ola Electric on course to world’s largest women-only factory, to employ 10,000+ women
Ola Electric announced that the FutureFactory will be run entirely by women. Ola Electric's chief, Bhavish Agarwal said that at full capacity, it will be the largest women-only factory and the only all-women automotive manufacturing facility globally by employing 10,000 women. "Providing women parity in the labour workforce can grow India's GDP by 27%", he further added by quoting studies.

First foreign commercial flight from Pakistan lands in Kabul
Since the chaotic final withdrawal of US troops last month, a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Boeing 777 passenger plane from Islamabad became the first commercial flight to touch down in Kabul on Monday morning, as a symbol to create "goodwill" with the people of Afghanistan. Air Commodore Jawad Zafar, PIA's chief operating officer, was also on board.

India's August retail inflation eases to 5.3%
The government on Monday shared data that India's retail inflation has marginally eased to 5.3% in August, staying within the RBI's comfort range of 2-6% for the second month in a row. However, the inflation number has been above the medium-term target of 4% for nearly two years.

India's COVID-19 vaccination tally crosses 75 crore mark
Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya said in a statement shared on Monday, that India has now administered over 75 crore anti-Covid doses so far, since the launch of the nationwide vaccination drive in January. WHO's regional director Dr. Poonam Khetrapal Singh also lauded the country's effort for scaling up COVID-19 vaccination at an unprecedented pace.

“Super-Fee” for US green card
In a move to aid in clearing the backlog for green card applications, reports suggest that the Indian diaspora may now be able to jump the queue for a green card by paying an additional supplemental fee, also categorized as "super-fee" and obtain permanent visas. However, the cap on green cards for countries still remains.
