SC asks Centre for door-to-door vaccination plea for disabled
The Supreme Court issued a notice to the Centre on a plea seeking door-to-door COVID-19 vaccination for disabled, and another on vaccination for pregnant women and lactating mothers. Appearing for the foundation, (NGO Evara Foundation) Advocate Pankaj Singh pointed out that the Indian Medical Association (IMA) had advocated doorstep vaccination and that some states were doing this.

Share market highlights
After trading on a volatile note for most part of the trading session, the benchmark indices stabilised in the afternoon trade, logging a smart rebound post two days of selling. The BSE Sensex rose to end at 59,005 after swinging 786 points in the intra-day session. Meanwhile, the 50-pack Nifty closed the day at 17,563. Bajaj Finance was the top Sensex gainer on closing, up 5%. Maruti Suzuki India was the worst-performing Sensex constituent, falling 2.5%.

CBSE waives exam fee for class 10, 12 students who have lost parents to COVID
The decision was taken as a special measure for Academic Session 2021-22, keeping in view the impact of COVID on students. The board decided that neither the examination fee, nor the registration fee will be charged from the students who have lost parents, or a parent, or legal guardian/adoptive parents due to COVID-19 pandemic.

U.S to end travel ban for vaccinated passengers
Joe Biden will ease foreign travel restrictions to the U.S. beginning in November, allowing foreigners into the country if they have proof of vaccination and a negative COVID-19 test. Fully vaccinated foreigners will be allowed into the country without requiring quarantine upon arrival, if a negative Covid test result is also shown. Meanwhile, India and the United Kingdom are in talks after the latter's new travel rules kicked up a storm.

Trudeau wins 3rd term as Canada’s PM
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau won a third term in Canada’s snap election but fell short of regaining the majority he was seeking, faced with relying on smaller parties in another fragmented parliament. For a second straight election, his party lost the popular vote to the Conservatives and won only because of a strong showing in Toronto, Montreal and other cities.

Tamil Nadu: DMK, allies hold black flag protest against Centre
The DMK and its allies held a black flag protest across Tamil Nadu. The DMK was protesting the Centre’s policies on farm laws, economic crisis, hike in fuel prices, and more. DMK MP Kanimozhi also alleged that the Centre is not interested in resolving the state issues, highlighting the GST collection, claiming that the state's autonomy is in danger.

Bees kill 63 endangered penguins in South Africa
The birds were found dead on the beach at Boulders, a popular tourist destination south of Cape Town. They were part of a colony of African penguins (Spheniscus demersus) living in a nature reserve, which are considered endangered, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List. The penguins, also known as Cape, black-footed or jackass penguins, breed in South Africa and neighbouring Namibia.

Air Marshal VR Chaudhari appointed new Chief of Air Staff
Vice Chief of the Indian Air Force, Air Marshal VR Chaudhari has been appointed the next IAF chief. The current Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal, RKS Bhadauria, is set to retire on September 30. An alumnus of the National Defence Academy and Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, Chaudhari has commanded a frontline fighter squadron and a fighter base during his career.

Top seer, Mahant Narendra Giri commits suicide
Narendra Giri, the President of Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad, was found dead in his room by his disciples at Baghambari Muth in Allahabad. Parishad is known as the largest sadhu organisation in India. According to K.P Singh, Inspector General of Police, the seer was found hanging from his ceiling. A pretend suicide note found at the site mentioned Anand Giri and two other disciples to cause this step following Anand Giri's being detained.
