Amarinder Singh resigns as Punjab chief minister
Captain Amarinder Singh resigned as the Punjab chief minister, amid the ongoing political tussle with Navjot Singh Sidhu, who was recently appointed as the chief of the Congress' Punjab unit. The resignation comes less than five months before the Assembly elections in Punjab, and less than an hour before a legislature party (CLP) meeting called by the Congress party. Addressing a press conference, the 79-year old Captain Amarinder said he felt humiliated.

Zomato, Swiggy to collect GST for deliveries
The GST Council has decided that online food delivery platforms will collect tax on items from consumers instead of restaurants they pick up orders from, for ease of tax administration. The GST Council also extended concessional tax rates on Covid-19 medicines, cut tax on cancer drugs, and waived GST on import of highly expensive medicines for muscular atrophy, but will continue to keep petrol and diesel out of the uniform national tax regime.

Neeraj Chopra's javelin and Lovlina Borgohain's boxing gloves draw highest bid at e-auction
So far, the highest bid has been received for Borgohain's gloves, and Chopra's javelin for INR 10 crore each at the e-auction organised by Culture Ministry. A badminton racket and bag of Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist PV Sindhu received a bid of INR 2.2 crore against its base price of INR 80 lakh. The proceeds will go to the Namami Gange Mission aimed at conserving and rejuvenating the Ganga River.

India may soon get its first 'electric highway'
The central government is mulling over the concept of an ‘electric highway’, to be built between the national capital of Delhi and Jaipur in Rajasthan. Union minister of road transport and highways, Nitin Gadkari, said that the government is already in talks with a foreign company to build the electric highway.

WHO emergency approval for Covaxin delayed till October 5
The Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization (SAGE) will meet at the World Health Organisation on October 5, to discuss granting the emergency use authorisation (EUA) to Covaxin. The SAGE is charged with advising WHO on overall global policies and strategies, ranging from vaccines and technology, research and development, to delivery of immunisation and its linkages with other health interventions.

Sonu Sood involved in INR 20 crore tax evasion: IT Department
The CBDT said that actor Sonu Sood and his associates evaded tax of ₹20 crore and claimed that after the Income Tax Department raided him and a linked Lucknow-based infrastructure group, it was found that he routed his "unaccounted income in the form of bogus unsecured loans from many bogus entities". It also accused Sood of violating the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) while raising donations from abroad.

IPL 2021 returns tomorrow
The second leg of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League will be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from tomorrow. In fact, IPL 2021 began in India in April this year. The match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) on September 19 will mark the beginning of the second phase of IPL 2021. The match will be played in Dubai from 07:30 pm.
